The only requirement I see for the iv tubing is macrodrip and nonvented. Should the iv have a filter attachment? I want to make sure we have the appropriate setup for our surgery center where we do frequent nerve blocks. Thank you.

NO STANDARD ANTIBACTERIAL FILTERS! you may not be able to push lipid emulsion (particle size 0.5 micron) thru. gross (e.g mesh) filters are fine.

We would prefer not to use filters unless they are required. Are they part of the protocol?

Wouldn't it be best to use a 1.2 or 5 micron filter in order to avoid any emboli rather than no filter at all?

not needed. and note there are no significant adverse effects reported in any published cases of lipid rescue.

Intralipid though requires a filter for infusion per the package insert and the same when infusing it part of TPN through the same infusion (3 - in - 1) or separately from the rest of the components (2 -in-1)
