Ask Us > Intradural injection after retrobulbar anesthesia

In a 58 years old diabetic male scheduled for a cataract surgery, few minutes after retrobulbar injection, the patient presented an episody of desorientation, cyanosis, mydriasis and respiratory arrest, compatible with brainstem afectation due to local anesthetic injected via retrobulbar.
Propofol and tratcheal intubation were performed and the overcome was good.
In this case, complication was not due to overdose of anesthetic, but to an abnormal distribution.
Do you think lipid rescue could be helpful?
Thank you so much.

Also curious if there has been any case reports/experience with retrobulbar blocks (gone bad) and lipid rescue?
