I'm doing some research on the use of Lipid Emulsions used to treat local anesthetic toxicity. I am trying to find the "hard science" behind the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of how the reversal works.

hi ed, sorry for the delay...pretty busy here.
links to the mechanistic papers are in teh learning links section. one, in RAPM shows acceleration of removal of bupivacaine by lipid from an isolated heart. stehr also published a nice paper using an isolated heart model that shows a metabolic effect.

re: actual lipid PK and safety, we're doing those studies now. and more planned in the future.
